Ba Guaner(2016)

Cupping as a Chinese traditional therapy has been through a long history, and till now it's still a welcomed way for people to adjust their body's function meanwhile to relax themself, and it's also my favorite way to keep health. After cupping once a time, I stared at the purple and red dots left on my skin in the mirror, there're just a natural pattern of my body. Then I realize it's a really magic baby changing after cupping from inside to outside. Therefore I started this project inspired from the cupping process with jar and fire, and the dots left on the skin.

I inspired from the process when the nurse use fire to contact the jar for transfer the heat. So I think how it will look like if I use fire to "contact" the fabric? The similar fabric with transparent and hard quality as  jar , the first one I thought is PVC.

Drawing dots on cotton with natural dyestuff.

Dying as a technic to print color on fabric has a long history as Chinese traditional cupping. That's the reason why I chose to use this technic.

I used brush to paint the dots on cotton fabric with mixed red and dark blue colorant.

When the cups suck on body, the steam will blur inside pf the cup. It makes me feel soft, with the blurred feeling, I think about organza.

I made the pattern in a more direct way. I printed the dots I drew and sewed them on organza. Also on the another part of the garments I printed  the cupping marks on pure white polyester with different scale.
